Here at Mentes para el Futuro, we are driven by a single goal; changing the lives of children and families living in poverty. We are the only organization in Guatemala offerring professionalized and integrated mental health services, educational support, advocacy and scholarships to private schools for children and families living in poverty.
Counseling and Mental Health Services
Low-income Guatemalans have little to no access to professional counseling or mental health services. Mentes provides families with access to counseling and psychotherapy as well as trauma prevention and recovery services.
Scholarships to Private Schools
Mentes provides children scholarships to attend private colegios that are academically rigorous and help them obtain admission to college.
Educational Support and Advocacy
We offer tutoring and academic support to children of all ages, as well as advocacy their families. Our goal is that all Mentes scholarship recipients receive a high quality education, attend college. and become the professionals of tomorrow.
Community Building and Empowering Independence
Mentes aims to provide a holistic approach to build on children’s individual strengths and create a strong community among Mentes members.

We also provide advocacy and support to the families we serve, as well as provide chidren scholarships to private school.

Mentes Scholars are provided with daily academic and emotional support. We also provide advocacy, family support and casework services to families in need. Our professional staff includes social workers, psychologists, educators and caseworkers from around the world.

Scholars are provided with daily tutoring sessions to help with school work.
Individual and Family Counseling
Scholars are provided with individual and family counseling to address the many traumas they and their families have faced.

Mentes provides services and support to children and their families starting in infancy and lasting through a student’s graduation from college.

Not only does Mentes recognize the power of education, but also addresses personal, familial, and systemic barriers preventing individuals from educational access. Having the opportunity to work with Mentes staff and scholarship recipients has been an illuminating experience as a volunteer. Mentes is dedicated to providing the opportunity for all children to reach their full potential, in order that they can stay in Guatemala and become professionals. The families want the best for their children, but discrimination and a lack of empathy towards the poor in Guatemala puts barriers up that make it hard to succeed. Mentes advocates and supports all the families they work with to overcome the discrimination and lack of access to quality education they so frequently face.
